Numsa strike may force car manufactures to shut down

Most car manufactures will be forced to shut down if the wage strike in the tyre manufacturing industry does not come to a halt by Monday. The Volkswagen (VW) plant in Uitenhage has already shut down, while companies such as Mercedes Benz and Toyota have already dropped shifts.

Special votes will be allowed for the first time in next year's local government elections. But that's subject to the Municipal Electoral Amendment Bill being passed by parliament in its current form.
